Guitar On

Guitar On, originally uploaded by deanv41.

Wye Oak is a band from Baltimore I saw at The Rickshaw Stop last week. They're a two-piece indie rock wonder with touches of Betty Servert, The Breeders, Yo La Tengo, and their own lovely heavy. The album called "If Children..." is a touchstone sudden discovery of my season and a fantastic ipod walking album. It rings out and declares itself fully; fresh, young but in a tradition of noisy beautiful songs. There's even some X and Sonic Youth in there, with a forgotten thread of 1990s rock through Antietam and Skull. Find them on Merge Records.
