The morning routine in Chinatown is a parade of deliveries -- produce, pig sides, poultry, frogs and fish. Within steps of my place are two butchers and two fish vendors amongst the dry goods and fresh produce shops. When the fishmongers pull up to net the day's catch into bins to take to the tanks, I am always reminded of my childhood in Alaska and years I spent later working in Seattle's Pike Place Market. The commerce of bringing seafood from sea to table is a boggling example of the everyday miracle of modern urban life.
