6th Street 1am

6th Street 1am, originally uploaded by deanv41.

This piece at Howard & 6th Street cracks me up.
By daylight, SoMa is perhaps the city's most revealed neighborhood. The mix of architectural eras and purposes is the richest, from tree lined Victorian alleyways and the grace of South Park, to the rash of wildly inventive graffiti murals embellishing otherwise relentlessly impersonal walls, to the most forward-thinking architecture from the high arts of Yerba Buena to in-fill ultramodern single family residences. The transformation from day life to night life is extreme here. This playful piece helps marry the two lives by brightening a rough notorious corner and re-imagining the district's contribution to The City.
