The shot above taken this evening at home reminded me of the artist Robert Irwin. I've been coming across his work and really appreciating it lately.
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art collection holds two works by this essential California artist. In the 1950s and 60s, he moved beyond the canvas and into framed light, space and illusion, always drawing the eye and confounding it. It feels ephemeral but is the stuff of waves and brightness, the illuminated thing at the center of our consciousness, emerging from darkness.
