Three Heads Six Arms by Night

Janus after Dark, originally uploaded by deanv41.

The city must send back by agreement the statue 3 Heads 6 Arms sometime early next year. China will not extend its stay, and so it goes. Enormous and looming, the object evokes not only Buddha but Hindu mythology -- Ganesha of the Jains, Lord of Obtacles -- as well as Janus, the January god of Roman gates & doorways, beginnings and ends. It's extraordinary effect on the plaza of Civic Center made an impression. It's absence will then define it; a void, a next bardot.

Whatever comes next shall obliterate it.
