Stories from the Great White North

Alaskan Native Rattle & Bowl, originally uploaded by deanv41.

For Christmas, my sister in Alaska sent me a simple, lovely cottonwood bowl and mesmerizing Tlingit shaman's raven rattle sculpted in mid flight the images of an ancient legend. I have an idea which legend, but will add a postscript later when I confirm.

It is stunning and appears authentic in its muted coloration, properly-shaped elements, and overlapping, shapeshifting men and creatures. The rattle fairly buzzes with powerful tales of dark and light to learn this winter.
