A beloved feature of Pride Celebrations for me is The Ethel Merman Experience, a brash, ballsy & beautifully BIG local tribute band to the Grande Dame of the Broadway Stage. Mark Sargent, the one behind The Ethel, belts out Mermenized hard rock with a kind of high drag, verve and fearlessness that San Francisco queens perfect. I spotted this art piece by the very talented mosaic artist, Michael Kruzich, in a the window of 1554 Market Street Gallery. [post title is link to his website] The mosaic is made of stone, smalti, rhinestones, pearls, and tinted thinset. Like its inspiration, it's big genius.
