In a small triangle in the center of North Beach is an overlooked garden fenced in with an iron gate. It's essentially the southwestern corner of Washington Square separated from the main by Columbus Avenue. There are a few statues beside a pond within this garden. Here is one of my favorite in The City; a man from who's palm water pools and flows into the pond. Small birds often drink from his palm as if Saint Francis himself had frozen in time, becoming a bronze spring for the natural world around him.
