The waterfront along The Embarcadero continues to evolve especially after the rehabilitation in the early 2000s of The Ferry Building (the southern arcade is seen on the left of this shot), a great retail success and bonafide destination for tourists and locals alike. I've written before about Sue Bierman Park, the open space shown here that borders the north side of Justin Herman Plaza at the foot of Market Street. In a few years, I can imagine this area being even more vibrant with people throughout the week, not just during working hours in The Financial District. The landscaping has filled out the emptiness left by the removal of the Embarcadero Skyway after the Loma Prieta Earthquake. These Canary Palms are mature, but were only planted here in the past decade. I think they look wonderful against the backdrop of The Bay Bridge.
