Painting Monarch

There's a few things going on in this snapshot that I dig that might go unnoticed unless pointed out.
First, it captures the moment an artist is painting the mural on Monarch nightclub, a hot spot on 6th Street that I wrote about earlier this month. In that post, you can see a blank white wall. Then there's the billboard for Chelada, a uniquely Mexican obsession made of beer, tomato juice, and clamata. Yes, clam juice. The cyclist buzzing by adds a nice dynamic element. Finally, the bent late afternoon shadows repeat the curves of the mural. The long early Spring light and the setting with palm tree by nightclub is quintessentially Californian.
