Building a Parklet

The Parklet phenomenon continues apace throughout the city. I captured folks beside a mound of dirt and a wheelbarrow building this one along Mid-Market where McAllister meets Market Street. The new owners of the Renoir Hotel are likely behind this project. It's a nice idea, building these compact park spaces along streets that usually have nowhere to sit and stop a moment. I'm surprised there isn't more opposition, given that they take over parking spaces that are contested zones in a city with so little parking options. This particular one seems to be constructed on the wide sidewalk itself, as anything built on Market Street itself would impede traffic. I'll have to return to this one soon and snap some shots of the completed project.
