The flip-side of Fashion is Laundry and if there's one thing you can't do online, it's doing friggin' laundry. Everyone's gotta schlep it. If you don't have a machine at home -- a fairly rare amenity in San Francisco at my price point -- then you have to find a local laundromat. I once lived above a solar-powered laundromat in Duboce Triangle, which was handy but for the rampant dust bunnies. Terrible lint fallout. My building in Chinatown has one washing machine and one dryer for 22 units, so I sometimes take it out to the 'mat.
Laundromats are the ultimate in-between spaces. The are necessary but completely incidental. Some are the bleakest places you will ever set eyes on, all florescent light, shady characters and anti-design.
This laundry joint is at Leavenworth and Pacific on Nob Hill. It has the blues.
